Cross Slopes

Excessive cross-slopes make sidewalks unusable

We automatically collect the cross-slope and grade of every sidewalk by rolling the PROWAP cart along the best path of travel. Our software allows the identification and location of every section of cross-slope that exceeds the maximum 2.0%. Sidewalks that force a pedestrian to traverse driveway crossings confront mobility device users with severe and rapidly changing cross-slopes. The driveway flare can send them out into the street or cause them to tip over. These excessive cross-slopes make them unusable by many pedestrians with mobility impairments. PROWAP identifies cross slope issues along the best path of travel and specifically tags those caused by driveway crossings.

Tripping Hazards

If the transition height between sidewalk panels is greater than 0.25 inches and a citizen in your community is hurt tripping on that transition, you have a problem. One of the most common personal injury cases in America involves someone tripping on a sidewalk or walkway. Often times cities, business owners, and private property owners are not aware that they are responsible tomaintain their sidewalks and make sure that dangerous conditions do not exist. A complete assessment of the sidewalk corridor is the only way to identify these potential hazards in a responsible and proactive manner. Our wireless height measurement device eliminates the physical demand of kneeling or squatting to identify trip hazards with a shim or profile gauge. PROWAP data will allow you to quickly determine the total volume of concrete that will need to be cut to bevel the transition or the surface area of panels to plan for their removal and replacement. We can provide you with the information you need to calculate the cost of repair and the geo-referenced position of every tripping hazard.

Curb Ramps

The basic unit of accessibility

The curb ramp is the basic unit of accessibility in a pedestrian circulation area. Curb ramps provide the connection between the sidewalk and the street crossing for pedestrians using strollers, walkers, and manual or powered wheelchairs.There are eleven elements of a curb ramp that require measurement of length, width, and both grade and cross-slope to determine if it meets the requirements of the Draft Access Board Public Rights of Way Accessibility Guidelines. To ask your staff or volunteers to squat or bend eleven times at every curb ramp is another potential liability. Our automated data collection cart is equipped with electronically stabilized sensors to quickly measure and record all of the required slope data and a wireless roll-a-wheel to quickly collect all required dimensions. This automated process requires only 10 to 20% of the time it takes to assess curb ramps manually.
